A Somatic Approach to Releasing Trauma:

Kiiko emphasizes that traumatic memories are held in specific places in the body: Scar tissue, restricted tissues from long ago injuries, tender reflex points on the abdomen and elsewhere.

As acupuncturists, we frequently encounter scars on the scalp, abdomen, and forehead. For more than 40 years, Kiiko Matsumoto has investigated the traumatic resonance of scars, and their role as gateways to recovery from long held patterns of pain. While Kiiko's focus on scar release is well known, her strategies to release these injury sites are poorly understood--and their profound clinical utility is often overlooked.

Identifying and releasing tenderness at these key points can bring instantaneous, and sometimes dramatic, relief from these long-held patterns of physical and emotional pain.

This hybrid webinar includes both live and recorded elements:

• A full showcase of video recordings via Vimeo — including lectures by Kiiko Matsumoto and Monika Kobylecka, along with six annotated treatment demonstrations by Kiiko — available from April 4 to May 12.

• Two live interactive sessions via Zoom with Kiiko Matsumoto’s protégé, Monika Kobylecka, on April 11 & 25, 9AM - 5PM PDT (Los Angeles) with a lunch break from 11:45-1. NOTE: These sessions are recorded and added to the showcase within one week.

Edited and annotated treatment demonstrations by Kiiko Matsumoto, including patients with a history of:

Through these lectures, treatment demonstrations, live Q & A sessions, detailed handouts, and optional reading assignments from Kiiko’s Clinical Strategies textbook — you'll learn to apply four of Kiiko’s key constitutional treatments — Sympathetic Nervous System Dominance; Adrenal Insufficiency; Shao Yang Imbalance; Immune Dysfunction — to the treatment of post-traumatic stress.

• Kiiko's scar release treatments, the use of diode rings, and her special scalp points for chronic pain and emotional stress.

Kiiko Matsumoto Style acupuncture (KMS) combines ideas and techniques of Kiiko's teachers (including Master Yoshio Manaka, Master Kiyoshi Nagano, and Master Yoshihiro Kawai) with her own clinical ideas and experience. 

KMS is rooted in classical Chinese medicine texts, with interpretations that often make connections with modern biomedical concepts. 

Many of Kiiko's novel point selections are based on her investigation of Chinese point names---and how these characters anticipate contemporary medical insights. She integrates history taking with palpation. Body memories of trauma and other significant history are reflected as tenderness at specific reflexes.
